1666: Amsterdam launches in Early Access on 25 August

Panache Digital Games has also released a new gameplay video featuring its two protagonists.

For Panache Games, this August will mark the launch of its supernatural action-adventure and investigation game, 1666: Amsterdam, which has just been confirmed to launch in Early Access via Steam and the Epic Games Store on 25 August, priced at $29.99/€29.99.

Furthermore, to celebrate this occasion, Panache Digital Games co-founder and executive producer Jean-Francois Boivin has released a new video offering a glimpse into this world of witchcraft and the dark arts, where the life cycle of its inhabitants is governed by the full moon, and these periods are known as Esbats. The game's protagonist, Noa, takes on the role of the Collector during the Day to identify the Originals - dark beings living amongst the city's inhabitants - whom Noa must investigate in their daily routines to be certain of their true nature. Then, under the cover of night, the hunt begins.

In the game's Prologue (available on the Epic Games Store and Steam), we see how, following Noa's initiation, she chooses her companion, Aaron, who will accompany her on her journey, and her story begins. Aaron is a cat, and as such possesses certain special talents for stealth, as well as a special power to subjugate the minds of others.

You can also see how the third-person combat system works, based on strikes and dodges, but only when the Original reveals its true form. This combines combat with enchanted weapons and potions. Each Original will have a different combat style, and by defeating them you'll be able to seal their power... until the next lunar cycle.

There's plenty to explore in 1666: Amsterdam, but at least we know that what we'll be getting from 25 August onwards is just the start of a process of refinement and improvement, thanks to feedback from the community.
