The Nintendo Switch Online service launched after the Switch itself, and not only lets you play some of the top games online with friends, but offers other incentives like classic NES games too. This has turned out to be pretty popular too, as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has revealed during a shareholders Q&A that the service has surpassed 10 million accounts.
"We recognize that making the Nintendo Switch Online service attractive to users is extremely important, and will continue to make the content of the service even more appealing going forward," Furukawa adds, something that they've done with the likes of Tetris 99 and cloud backup for save data.
When talking about subscription models, Furukawa also says that "we need to further enrich these sorts of services in the future. Nintendo's policy is that we will consider whether each product we offer is suited to a subscription model as we expand our business in the future". We're even told that he hopes to "enhance our digital content and network services like Nintendo Switch Online".
At the end of April we reported that the Switch Online service had reached 9.8 million subscribers, so perhaps the busy month of June (which had a packed Nintendo Direct stream full of announcements) helped tip this over the 10 million mark.
