We recently reported that Take-Two had issued a cease & desist order against Open IV, a very popular tool among GTA V modders . It wasn't long before the community reacted, showing their collective displeasure via both the launch of an online petition (which attaracted 78,000 signatures) as well as a protest whereby they lowered Grand Theft Auto V's rating on Steam.
This pressure seems to have had the desired effect, as Rockstar published a statement announcing that they have withdrawn their legal action with regards to Open IV :
"Rockstar Games believes in reasonable fan creativity, and, in particular, wants creators to showcase their passion for our games," the statement reads. "After discussions with Take-Two, Take-Two has agreed that it generally will not take legal action against third-party projects involving Rockstar's PC games that are single-player, non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property (IP) rights of third parties."
Good news for fans, and proof positive that it's always worth making your voice heard because sometimes it can effect change.
