Fortnite: Battle Royale is heading to iOS and Android

It'll even feature cross-play and cross-progression with PC and PS4.

The similarities between PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite: Battle Royale aren't exactly small, so today's announcement shouldn't be much of a surprise, as Epic Games has decided to follow in PUBG's footsteps by revealing that Fortnite: Battle Royale will come to iOS devices on Monday and Android "in the next few months".

We won't just get the option to download the popular free-to-play game, however, as we'll need to sign up on Fortnite's website and hope to get one of the first invites the studio will start distributing on Monday. Those of you who get an invite will also get a few codes to share with your friends, so there's still hope even if you don't get one from Epic, with more invites rolling out over the next few months.

Not interested in playing "a stripped-down port" of Fortnite: Battle Royale? Well, you might want to reconsider that, as Epic claims these new versions will be exactly the same as the ones on PC and consoles. It almost sounds like they're not joking either. Why? Because the game will support cross-play and cross-progression between PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, iOS, and eventually Android (is this the part where we start nagging at Sony and Microsoft to make friends again?).

It's worth noting that you'll need iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or iPad 2017 devices to enjoy these fights on the go, but we'll see if this is actually enough to deliver the same experience on the small screen next week.

Do you have high hopes for mobile Battle Royale?
