Esports gamers "immediately engaged with Overwatch"

Activision Blizzard head of competitive gaming thinks the shooter is the next big thing.

We recently had a chat on all things esports with Mike Sepso, former MLG president and current Senior Vice President at Activision Blizzard, who was in Barcelona last week to talk about esports going mainstream.

When asked about new potential esports-focused games from the publisher, and after mentioning the importance of the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in this regard, Sepso wanted to share his thoughts on the incredibly successful launch of Overwatch among different types of players, even if he's closer to the Activision part of the business:

"The newest thing obviously is Overwatch, which is just a huge hit right out of the gate and it's testament to how amazing Blizzard is at developing incredible games -especially because it's brand-new IP, which they haven't released for a very long time- and how engaged the eSports audience is with that game, immediately, it was incredible."

If you want to know more about the increasing appeal of the game among its passionate audience, we just published Overwatch: Destined for Glory?
