Capcom has announced Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies VR, and it's a remake of 2013's Dual Destinies rebuilt for virtual reality headsets rather than an entirely new courtroom saga. The series' move to VR on Meta hardware is set for release next year.
The remake will run on Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest 3S, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro and the upcoming Meta VR Glasses. Players can stick with standard controllers or use hand tracking to call out witnesses, present evidence, and physically examine crime scenes rendered as explorable 3D spaces. Optional voice activation even lets players shout the series' trademark "OBJECTION!" instead of pressing a button, though the cases and storylines otherwise appear to match the original 2013 release.
Fans have been waiting a long time for fresh Ace Attorney content, and Capcom has leaned mostly on re-releasing older entries in recent years, including English localisations of games that previously stayed in Japan. The last entirely new mainline-adjacent release was 2017's spin-off The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve, and a recent Steam achievements leak has fuelled speculation that Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright could be next for a modern re-release, though nothing has been confirmed. It's the kind of steady, ports-first approach Capcom has taken elsewhere too, not unlike its handling of another recent revival announcement, or the wider trend of established games getting new VR releases.
