A report by AT&T has stated that HBO Max activations doubled over the final quarter of 2020, thanks to the release of Wonder Woman 1984. The report states that over 17.2 million activations occurred by the end of Q4, and that by the end of the 2020 calendar year, HBO Max and HBO subscribers passed 41 million in the US, with over 61 million globally.
According to AT&T CEO John Stankey, these numbers have been reached a full two years ahead of schedule. "The release of Wonder Woman 1984 helped drive our domestic HBO Max and HBO subscribers to more than 41 million, a full two years faster than our initial forecast," said Stankey.
These stellar successes for HBO Max and Wonder Woman 1984 will likely mean we'll see more and more major motion pictures debuting on streaming platforms as we transition further through and out of this pandemic climate.
