In a "realignment" shift by the publisher, THQ has announced the closure of two studios - de Blob's Blue Tongue Entertainment and licence-based developer THQ Studio Australia.

Also hit is a Phoenix US-based developer team, and the MX VS ATV franchise is also believed to be shut down as part of the portfolio shift.

As reported by MCV, Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ, explained the alterations as "right-sizing our internal development capacities for our console portfolio."

"Our five internal studios are focused on delivering high-quality games with talented teams driving the execution of those titles to market."

He also stated that the company was "making shifts to reduce movie-based and licensed kids' video games in our portfolio, which underscores our strategy to move away from games that will not generate strong profits in the future."

Blue Tongue Entertainment created the critically acclaimed de Blob series, moving the series multiformat with the sequel released at the start of this year. THQ Studio Australia focused on licensed titles, working on tie-ins to The Last Airbender and MegaMind.
