Nintendo's 3DS will see a hardware price cut come August 12, with the reduction being claimed to be "around a third" of the current cost.
The exact pricing will apparently once again be left up to retailers. "The ultimate price to consumers is, of course, determined by retailers," stated Nintendo in a press release, reported on by MCV.
Great news for those still on the fence about buying one. But for early adopters there's great news as well, with Nintendo offering an Ambassador Programme to all those that connect to the eShop before August 12. Those that do will be eligible to download 10 NES titles and 10 Game Boy/GBA games from the store for free. Details of when and what will be revealed at a later date.
The price cut is part of a global initiative by the company that sees similar cuts in Japan, America and Australia, believed to be in response to sluggish sales of the unit since launch earlier this year.
Nintendo did a similar price cut with the N64 on release, dropping the console's original price by over £50. A similar scheme offered early buyers the chance to claim a free game or controller.
