Charges to update Xbox 360 games post-launch were dropped earlier this year, reports say.

Sources talking to Official Xbox 360 Magazine have confirmed another online report that the charges, issued by Microsoft to developers wanting to subsequently update their titles past the initial first (and free) update, have been dropped.

The charge has repeatedly been a hot topic of contention for developers operating on Xbox Live Arcade given the high cost - which Tim Schafer pegged at a cool $40,000.

While it may be easy to read this sudden reveal of dated information as a dollop of positive PR to help tackle a rough couple of months for Microsoft, it's also worth noting that this is coming at the end of the console's life-cycle, and raises a question over what the company's policies will be for those developing on the next iteration of the service come Xbox One.
