Nintendo has announced the reduction of the trade price for its Wii + Sports Resort hardware bundle come May 20. While the firm is keen to stress that the final price is decided by retailers (a phrase used for its 3DS pricing) £129 is current number being rolled around in speculators' mouths.
The same day (and for the same price) an "entry level" Mario Kart bundle that comes with a white Wii, Remote plus nunchuk, a copy of the game, and a Wii Wheel will be released in retail.
The idea for the price drop, the first for the company's best-selling console, is thought to be two-fold: one, to push sales which have tailed off in recent times, and to reposition the machine in preparation for the unveiling of the console's successor, which is to be shown at this year's E3.
This repositioning of the console as a family/casual unit (comments from the Nintendo brass aside, that's what public perception has thought anyway) goes hand in hand with the rebranding of select titles, to "offer social gaming fun for the whole family" according to the firm. Titles on the list are Wii Sports, WarioWare: Smooth Moves, Mario Strikers Charged Football and Animal Crossing: Let's Go To The City.
