Sega's Mega Drive has proved a popular candidate for handheld versions: we've lost count the number of budget all-in-one portable consoles that have appeared on the market over the years.
FunStock are introducing a new £49.95 version: 2.8 inch LCD screen, six buttons and twenty built-in titles (which, ESWAT and Alien Storm aside, touch base with the usual trinty of Sonic, Streets of Rage and Golden Axe). However, there's a few notable bullet points on the announcement.
The handheld's got a built-in battery recharged via the included USB cable (though there's no mention how long the battery lasts per charge - we've pinged a rep for confirmation). There's also a SD slot "to download more games" onto the device (though again, no mention whether this means official support or dedicated digital store).
The latter point's significant: while every console's been hit with ports of the classic machine's titles, those games have restricted to the usual suspects. The option to expand that number, coupled with a low price and lightweight build makes it more attractive. Though the dimensions, 17x14x5.5cm, seems slightly chunkier than the PS Vita.
More details (along with the ability to pre-order, as the console's due second week of April) at the official store.
