You have to applaud Warner Bros for releasing this bit of news in the wake of Bioshock's review embargo lift: Google searches are going to do them well over the rest of today.
The company will publish Infinite Crisis, a new MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game developed by Turbine later this year. A beta will precede the release, with sign-ups available now.
The name Infinite Crisis has some heft in the comic book world: there's been multiple 'Crisis' events in the DC universe, cosmic catastrophes that see different incarnations of popular characters from multiple universes come together in a line-wide crossover. The game's looking to tap into the varied roster such an event brings - the first artwork (below) shows multiple versions of Batman, and the announcement also offers nods to Catwoman, Green Lantern and The Flash (expect many more to come).
Turbine has previously worked on the The Lord of the Rings Online FTP title.
"The Turbine team is very excited to reveal Infinite Crisis to the world and extend the MOBA genre with new features," says Jeffrey Steefel, Turbine's Executive Producer, on the announcement. "We are utilizing years of experience in the online game space to deliver innovations to the MOBA genre with a game that features fast-paced action, a major story arc, destructible environments, catastrophic events and a deep roster of iconic DC Comics characters."
