After having only just implemented the developer rating system, Metacritic has shelved it for the foreseeable future.
The setup, in which individual developers received an average score totalled from their credited games on the site, had received a fairly negative response from many sectors due to those listing being incomplete, and therefore not a fair reflection of developers' histories.
Metacritic does plan to reinstate the system at some point in the future, but in a statement released to MCV, said that "as our users' feedback has indicated, it is a work in progress and is not nearly as comprehensive as it needs to be to accurately provide a career score for these individuals."
"As such, we have removed that career score from the pages dedicated to creative individuals behind games on Metacritic. We are still very much committed to building a credits database, and welcome your participation in that process."
