Action-rhythm apparently isn't dead. It's just getting a face-lift.
That's the rumour heard by Kotaku, who reports that Activision, fresh from burying the genre's remains with its Guitar and DJ Hero properties, has taken up the shovel and needle to dig it back up and stitch together a new Frankenstein-style project.
That project's name is Dance Hero, a title the company trademarked back in 2008. No prizes for guessing what form the game will take - though it'll have to be something pretty special to get folk away from Harmonix's Dance Central or Wii's Just Dance 2. There's no news on developer or time scale for the title, but Kotaku has posted a few songs its heard is due to appear:
"2012" by Jay Sean (feat Nicki Minaj)
"Out Of Space" by The Prodigy.
"The Way I Are" by Timbaland (feat Keri Hilson and D.O.E.)
"Take Over Control" by Afrojack (feat Evan Simon)
It's an interesting theory, and given the success of motion-controlled dance titles recently we could see this happening. Hopefully we'll see this sub-genre focus on the digital downloads rather than multiple retail releases to make sure it survives.
