After it emerged that it's latest handheld would be region-locked, Nintendo has explained why you'll only be able to play UK games on your system, although at the same time offering the suggestion that not every game will fall under the same ruling.
"Nintendo has developed different versions of Nintendo 3DS hardware to take into account different languages, age rating requirements and parental control functionality, as well as to ensure compliance with local laws in each region," the firm explained to Eurogamer.
"Nintendo 3DS also offers network services specifically tailored for each region...there is the possibility that Nintendo 3DS software sold in one region will not function properly when running on Nintendo 3DS hardware sold in another."
The wording is key here. "There is the possibility" suggests that some titles might slip through the region-lock net, much like some Xbox 360 titles running on multiple regional machines. Now who's going to step up to the plate and work out a running order of which titles work on what consoles?
