Microsoft announced the initial sales figures of its Kinect unit last night at Steve Ballmer's CES keynote speech.
The Chief Executive explained that the unit has reached eight million units shipped worldwide in its first two months of sale, which has exceeded the company's projections of five million.
Ballmer also expanded on Kinect's future, unveiling Avatar Kinect which will appear at some future point as part of the Gold Subscription service. It will let you meet up with friends online via your Avatars, with Kinect reading your facial expressions and translating and mapping them onto your virtual character.
