The Association for United Kingdom Interactive Entertainment (for those who want to know what UKIE stands for, and formally ELSPA) has announced the UK grossed £2.8 billion in sales over the 52 weeks of 2010.

That number came from the combined sale of all entertainment software, console hardware and console/pc gaming accessories. However, things do get interesting when you break it down further.

Xbox 360 came out on top in hardware sales earning £232 million against PlayStation 3's £229 million. Combined unit sales equated to 2.3 million units sold over the year.

Microsoft also won out on software sales, generating £538 million, with Sony trailing just slightly behind with £414 million. For units that's 18.2 million for Xbox 360, 13.8 million for PS3.

Nintendo's cut of the sales wasn't disclosed in the report. Total sales on videogame console software was £1.45 billion, and revenue for console hardware was £800 million.

the report goes on to state:

"Overall, in 2010 UK consumers bought a total of 63 million console & pc videogames - which works out at more than one per person in the UK.

The total value of console/PC gaming peripherals was £545m in 2010, with total sales reaching 25.8m million units."
