Originally Infamous was 'Animal Crossing with superheroes'

It would have been a very different game, that's for sure.

The original Infamous cemented developer Sucker Punch place among Sony's most valued first-party studios, and the original game has since gone on to spawn a range of high-quality sequels. However, the first game in the series was dramatically different in concept to what was eventually released on PlayStation 3. Actually, it was a lot like Animal Crossing...

In a recent post on PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch co-founder Chris Zimmerman explains exactly how the original concept differed from the final product.

"At first, we were building a superhero version of Animal Crossing. You roamed your city, tracked down criminals, helped out the citizens, and did some light zoning work along the way. The best superheroes have alter egos, right? So your alter ego was a property developer, deciding where to put the pet shops and tiki bars the citizens were demanding. Sounds awesome, right? Well, it wasn't. After six months of experimentation we gave up on property development and focused on superhero action."

We actually disagree Zimmerman. We think that sounds awesome. Don't you?
