No PS4 cross-platform support for Rocket League

Switch players will be able to indulge, though.

Yesterday we reported that Psyonix's incredibly popular Rocket League is, in fact, coming to Switch and that it has cross-platform support (meaning multiplayer against people on other platforms).

Now Psyonix has defined this feature further on Rocketleague.com, but it turns out one of the formats isn't participating: Playstation 4:

"Online Multiplayer supports up to eight players, and Cross-Network play will be supported as well, allowing Switch players to hit the field with players on Steam and Xbox One."

This means that PlayStation 4 gamers still only get to play against others with the same console, while everyone else can play together. It does indeed sound a little counter-productive for Sony who claims Playstation 4 is "for the players".

This is, for the record, the second game in recent times where Sony refused cross-platform gaming for their users. Jez Corden recently revealed on Twitter that this applies to Minecraft as well.

Clarification: Those playing on PS4 can play with PC-based players, just not those on other consoles.
