Winter is coming to Rocket League, and the cold snap's bringing with it a host of new items and additions to the popular racing-football hybrid.

Kicking off on Monday December 14, the previously announced hockey-inspired Mutator Mode, renamed Snow Day, will replace the Mutator Mashup online playlist. Featuring an iced-over field and a heavy, disc-shaped hockey puck, "Snow Day" introduces an exciting new twist to Rocket League's staple football-style gameplay.

As well as the new Snow Day mode, players can also get seven new festive-themed Garage items. Like the themed goodies found in the Halloween update, these post-match drops are available for a limited time only and include an Xmas Rocket Trail, Christmas Tree Topper and Candy Cane Antenna.

Players have a chance to obtain the Winter Games items following the completion of any match regardless of whether they win or lose, however, the odds of getting them are lower than for standard items. Fail to collect all the Christmas items before January 4 you'll have to wait till Santa comes calling next year to complete the collection.

Both the Snow Day mode and the Winter Games items will be available for free on PlayStation 4 and Steam.

Grinch-like players can skip the festivities and embrace a darker side of Rocket League with post-apocalyptic DLC Chaos Run, available on PlayStation and Steam from December 1 for $3.99 / £2.79 / €3.99.
