Don Mattrick has left his role as Zynga CEO, little under two years after he took over the position from company founder Mark Pincus.
GamesIndustry reports that Mattrick has come under fire for losses sustained by the company while he's been in charge.
"I am proud of the progress we have made together," Mattrick said in a statement. "I believe the timing is now right for me to leave as CEO and let Mark lead the company into its next chapter given his passion for the founding vision and his ability to couple our mobile progress with Zynga's unique strengths."
While Mattrick next move is unknown ("I plan to return to Canada to pursue my next challenge," he concludes), Pincus is stepping in take over the role of CEO once more.
Mattrick joined the company in July 2013, after departing Microsoft following the poor reception to the Xbox One's reveal and a flurry of negative criticism over the plans for the console.
