When The Matrix: Resurrections arrived, it didn't exactly thrill fans of the series who were hoping for a return that could see the sci-fi franchise back in the form it reached with the original movie. But like the sequels that followed that epic original, the fourth film in the series left a lot to be desired, both in reception and its box office ticket haul.
It's because of this that we are now wondering about whether or not a fifth The Matrix movie will actually debut. But seemingly, it's still got the greenlight, at least if we are to believe director Drew Goddard's latest comments to ScreenRant.
The director/writer explained that The Matrix 5 is "still in the works. I'm in my writing cave writing. I don't know how long I'll be in that writing cave, but whenever I come out, I'll have news to share."
So it seems like Keanu Reeves may yet get another opportunity to return as Neo, although as the script is still a long ways off, it should be said that things could still happen to this project, so it's probably wise not to hold your breath on seeing this any time soon.
