Even the G-Wagen can't escape the electric movement in the automotive space. The iconic car model from Mercedes-Benz has been electrified to make for a new model that slots into the G-Class portfolio, with this known as the Mercedes-Benz G 580.
The car is powered by four individual motors that are in turn powered by a 116kWh battery that promises 473 kilometres of range when fully charged. This setup, which is part of the Mercedes-Benz ladder frame, is said to deliver a total output of 432kW and a maximum torque of 1,164Nm.
The G 580 will also have drive concepts built for off-roading adventures, with these known as the G-Turn and the G-Steering systems that combine with the new Offroad Cockpit and the transparent bonnet to enable what is being dubbed a "digital off-road experience."
Adding to all of this is a new sound system called G-Roar that promises to offer "an 'aura' and various 'event' sounds", although what this means in practice is difficult to determine. In the interior, we can expect a 12.3-inch media display that will offer access to safety and assistance systems and support drivers.
The price and release date for the G 580 have yet to be shared.
