BMW already has quite a few different electric vehicles in its portfolio but it does intend to expand this further down the line. To achieve this, BMW has now teamed up with Rimac to tap the EV supercar maker's talents in an effort to support and expand its EV production in the future.
Rimac describes this deal as a "long-term partnership" that is all about providing batteries for the BMW Group's cars. It's also said to be Rimac's "largest and most ambitious project" yet and to complete and fulfil its requirements, Rimac has announced that a "significant portion" of its Rimac Campus in Croatia will be committed to the creation of batteries for EVs.
"This marks a pivotal moment in the growth of Rimac Technology, from humble beginnings to a major long-term partnership with one of the greatest automotive brands in the world," said Rimac group CEO and founder Mate Rimac. "It's a clear sign of the transition of Rimac Technology from niche high-performance supplier to high-volume production capability. With the relentless growth of our business, including the opening of Rimac Campus, we're now ready to deliver large-scale projects for the leading brands in the automotive industry."
While we can expect more information about the partnership in the future, it has been mentioned that BMW's expertise with batteries and electric drive systems will be shared with Rimac as part of the deal too.
