McLaren is seemingly looking at changing its future design philosophy for its road cars, as it has now outlined five core principles that it aims to hit for its next-generation of vehicles. The principles come from the company's 60 years of heritage, and include making its cars look Epic, Athletic, Functional, Focused, and Intelligent.
As to what each of these really mean, Epic is about driving sensory excitement, Athletic is to do with creating an extraordinary appearance, Functional is about performance by design, Focused is to do with ensuring the cars have super-lightweight and aerodynamic engineering, and Intelligent is about extracting the most performance.
McLaren has also teased this a tad with a few early concept renderings, all while explaining that the inspiration for these cars comes from its successful Formula 1 vehicles such as the MP4/4 and even other supercars like the McLaren F1 and the 750S. The car maker even affirms that in future cars its cockpit won't feel claustrophobic or compromised and that the aim is to deliver on spacious and comfortable elements with a "horizon-like view forward."
