CES is a wonderful time of the year. It's a period where companies from all over the world come together to share and show off their most innovative and often weird concepts and new products. Mercedes-Benz has bought into exactly that, as during the Las Vegas convention, it has announced a collaboration with Will.i.am that will turn its cars into a "virtual musical instrument".

The MBUX Sound Drive experience system is said to use a variety of sensors and advanced software to interpret driving dynamics and convert them into musical elements that enable the driver to compose music in real-time. This means that when you accelerate, brake, steer, and so forth, the software will turn this into musical expressions.

Mercedes-Benz notes that this system can go as far as syncing with other in-car signals, such as windscreen rain sensors that "provide soothing rhythms during inclement weather to reduce stress and enhance concentration."

As for what the actual goal of this system is, it's mentioned that the aim is to ultimately turn the technology into an open music platform where artists all around the world can create tracks of all kinds.

The rollout for this feature will be mid-2024 and its set to be available in all Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-AMG cars that are equipped with the second-generation MBUX system.
