If you had any doubt that Ferraris are still a very desired car, then today's news will no doubt set your mind straight. Because it has been revealed that a Ferrari 250 GTO has been sold at auction for a whopping £42 million, which breaks and sets a new record for the most expensive Ferrari ever sold at auction.
The car, which was sold by RM Sotheby's in New York managed to beat the former record by almost £3 million, as the record was last held by a different 250 GTO that sold for £39.4 million back in 2018.
As for why this 250 GTO sold for such a large amount of money, it's said to be the only 250 GTO that was ever taken racing by Scuderia Ferrari, and since then has spent 38 years being preserved and protected by a collector. This car in particular managed to finish second at the Nurburgring 1,000km in 1962, and even competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans before that.
There is a slight catch to this record as this isn't the most expensive 250 GTO ever sold, as that record goes to a vehicle that was sold in a private sale back in 2018 for a mega £52 million.
