Volkswagen is one of the most dedicated car manufacturers when it comes to the electric vehicle space. The automotive titan has promised to be Europe's biggest EV manufacturer by 2027, with a fleet of 11 all-new electric cars, and in the process of achieving this goal, Volkswagen has now lifted the curtain on the ID. GTI Concept, a car that teases what the sporty EV future could look like.
The car is said to be a sporty version of the ID.7, and the production version is set to be based on Volkswagen's modular electric drive platform, and with the intention to debut on roads in 2027.
Speaking about the ID. GTI, Volkswagen brand's CEO, Thomas Schäfer has stated, "With the ID. GTI Concept, we are taking the GTI DNA into the electric age. It remains sporty, iconic, technologically progressive and accessible, but now with a new interpretation for tomorrow's world: electric, fully connected and extremely emotive. Here, driving pleasure and sustainability are a perfect match. This means GTI has a future - for our brand and for the fans. A Volkswagen sports car for the electric age that is suitable for everyday driving: 100 per cent electric - 100 percent emotion."
Volkswagen has also promised to produce only electric cars by 2033 in Europe, and in the lead up to this goal, will be leaning further into hybridising its current line-up.
