The Japanese automotive titan, Mazda, has now announced that it will be dropping purely combustion engine-powered cars for the next-generation of the MX-5 Miata. As per Motortrend, Mazda has said that the next version of the vehicle will be electrified in some state, but as for the specifics of this, that has yet to be affirmed.

This does mean that the next MX-5 Miata could be purely electric, or instead a hybrid, meaning there is a world where the combustion engine remains in the vehicle but is now bolstered by an electric motor.

Either way, Mazda claims that this new take on the car will be debuting in 2026, so it shouldn't be too long before we find out the specifics of what the electrification will entail.
