McLaren hasn't missed the boat on making announcements that coincide with this year's Shanghai Auto Show, as the British supercar manufacturer has now lifted the curtain on its next supercar.

Known as the McLaren 750S, this will be the next step up from the 720S, and as the announcement of the car states, is the "lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren ever". The car is said to clock in at 30kg less than a 720S, bringing it to 1,277kg thanks to its carbon fibre-shelled racing seats and alloy wheels.

As for the performance of the car, we're told that under the hood will be a 4.0-litre V8 engine that is capable of producing 750PS and 800Nm of force, which will in practice allow the 750S to go from 0-100km/h in a blistering 2.8 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 7.2 seconds.

The car also features a few design elements from the McLaren P1, such as a central-exit exhaust and narrower eye-socket intakes, all while an extended front splitter works to improve aerodynamics.

There will be two iterations of the 750S, a regular version and a Spider edition for those looking for a breezier experience.
