At the current moment in time, the premier place to race in the all-electric motorsport scene is Formula E. But, how do people get into this globe-trotting tournament? Former Mahindra Racing team lead Dilbagh Gill has come up with an idea that will be put into practice next year.
Known as the Ace Championship, this tournament will act as a sort of feeder platform for electric motorsport scenes, including Formula E, and will be a place where drivers, mechanics, strategists and so forth can start to pave their way to the major competitive tournament.
As the announcement for the Ace Championship was only made over the weekend at the Hyderabad E-Prix, the details relating to the tournament are sparse, but we are told that it will boast two levels of competition, and that teams will use a single pair of cars for both the lower Challenger tier and the higher Championship tier - even if these vehicles will be able to kick out more power at the Championship tier.
As for how cars will be designed, it's said that the Formula E Gen2 chassis will be used to start with. In terms of competing teams, this has not yet been announced either.
