The first Pokémon Detective Pikachu trailer

A cheeky and talking Pikachu.

Today the first official trailer of Pokémon Detective Pikachu was released, the first live-action movie based on the popular Game Freak and Nintendo franchise coming to theatres in May next year. The iconic electric-type mouse monster is voiced by none other than Ryan Reynolds, and while not going full Daredevil, it's somewhat more cheeky mouse than expected that we're getting.

"After the mysterious disappearance of the brilliant private detective Harry Goodman, the 21-year-old son Tim is forced to find out what happened. Harry's former companion Pokémon, Detective Pikachu, a lovely, exhilarating and wise super-investigator, helped him in the investigation. Having discovered that the two are equipped to communicate with each other in a unique way, Tim and Pikachu join forces in an electrifying adventure to unveil the intricate mystery. They are thus chasing clues along the neon-lit streets of Ryme City, a modern and disordered metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world. Here they will encounter a series of Pokémon, discovering an overwhelming plot that could destroy their peaceful coexistence with humans and threaten the very universe of Pokémon."

In the cast of the movie, directed by Rob Letterman, we also find Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Bill Nighy, Chris Geere, Suki Waterhouse, Rita Ora and Omar Chaparro.

If the trailer is anything to go by this is certainly a movie to keep on your radar...
