Gaming names are often things we wish we could change, as our tastes change over the years and we no longer want to be xX_MLGQuickScopez_Xx, and it seems that could be a thing for the past for PlayStation users, as Kotaku reports that developers of various games have told them that name changes are coming soon.

Three different game studios said that they've been altering their games to fit with these plans, and one even provided a photo from inside Sony showing a PSN profile with the option to edit username.

These alleged sources didn't provide a timeline, but the developers speculated that, because of how PSN IDs were first established (linking account ID to username), fixing old multiplayer games might be difficult.

Industry insider Tidux claimed earlier this year (thanks, PSU) that PSN name changing was closing in, but added that you'll "have to give up content prior to the PS4 if you wanna change your PSN name. Trophies, games and saves. I'm not 100 on the last point." We should remind you that this is again an unofficial claim, so take this and the rest of the report with a pinch of salt.

As a comparative point, Xbox users can change their usernames once for free, before then paying for the privilege, while PlayStation players have been stuck with theirs for years.
