Yooka-Laylee - the 3D platformer created by Playtonic to provide a spiritual successor to Banjo Kazooie - owes its Kickstarter founders one more trip to the past in the form of the so-called 64-Bit mode, a graphical setting change that actually gets activated by drinking a tonic in-game. The British studio showed off the new style before, but the blurry textures didn't represent what a Nintendo 64 game looks like, and so it received a lot of criticism.

As a result the 64-Bit mode has been totally remade, as we can see in the new trailer and with the screenshots, comparing the original version to the retro mode. Playtonic opts for a CTR filter to simulate the old TV image and a lot of fog in the background instead of a low-poly design, not to mention the changed music featuring chiptune jingles.

The 64-Bit tonic is coming soon via a free update for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Are you pleased with the changes made?
