Xiaomi is known for a wide array of technology, be it phones and tablets or even smart home gadgets. The Chinese tech giant is now branching into the electric vehicle space too, as during a recent EV Technology Launch event, Xiaomi has lifted the curtain on what is being dubbed the SU7 car.

This EV model is described as a "full-size high-performance eco-technology sedan", one that is aiming to "push the limits of performance, ecosystem, and mobile smart space." This might seem like a big claim to make, but Xiaomi also goes further and adds that it intends to become one of the top five global automakers in the next 15 to 20 years, and that using its expertise in other tech sectors, intends to "completely redefine the automotive industry".

Alongside the SU7, Xiaomi has shown off glimpses of new EV tech that it has been working on, including two V6s and a single V8 motor which is going under the namesake of the HyperEngine E-motors. Furthermore, the new battery tech that will be powering these cars claims to bring a performance improvement over other batteries of 24.4% while boasting a theoretical range of up to 1,200 km.

Xiaomi's upcoming cars will also feature autonomous driving systems, as well as providing a smart cabin that includes a 16.1-inch 3K central console, a whopping 56-inch HUD display, plus a 7.1-inch rotating dashboard. The OS system will even support the use of over 5,000 applications.
