Yesterday we reported on the winners of the Black Friday/holiday sales in the US, including the Nintendo Switch, and now GamesIndustry.biz has brought us an update from across the pond.
It was actually Microsoft's Xbox consoles that sold best over the Black Friday period in the UK, with All-Digital versions of the Xbox One S being sold for very low prices, and in tempting bundles. This meant that over 100,000 Xbox Ones were sold last week alone, sitting just behind what was achieved in the same period last year, with the All-Digital version being the most successful.
Apparently the Xbox One beat out the Nintendo Switch by "just a handful of consoles", as the Switch was also being sold at a discounted price and with tempting bundles. In fact, the Switch Lite was the best-selling version, with Nintendo shifting more consoles overall this year than last.
Considering the higher prices of the Switch bundles, Nintendo gathered more revenue compared to Microsoft, however.
When it comes to PS4, Sony sold over 60,000 units last week, again due to bundles like FIFA 20 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
As for overall sales for the year, the Xbox One is down 35% year-to-date, with Sony's PS4 down 45%. The Nintendo Switch, however, is actually 13% up, presumably due to the fact that the Switch Lite is a new model, while Sony and Microsoft fans may be waiting for the PS5 and Project Scarlett machines respectively.
Does any of this surprise you?
