World of Tanks introducing lighter, quicker tanks tomorrow

Five French wheeled vehicles are coming in update 1.4, which should help those who want to sneak around the fight.

World of Tanks is about to get its first big update of the year, as a whole new sub-branch of wheeled vehicles are coming for those who prefer light tanks on the battlefield, all of which are French and start at Tier VI.

These can be researched after reaching the tracked Tier V AMX ELC bis, and the full list is as follows:

  • AMD Panhard 178B, Tier VI

  • Hotchkiss EBR, Tier VII

  • AML Lynx 6x6, Tier VIII

  • Panhard EBR 90 (mle. 64), Tier IX

  • Panhard EBR 105, Tier X

The true active scout is a new role on the battlefield as a result of these additions, as these vehicles can get close to targets to light them up for allies, having camouflage to help them with their stealth.

Two new mechanics are also introduced, which can be unlocked through the sub-branch and are unique to these new vehicles. The first of these is the lock-on feature unlocked with the AMD Panhard 178B, simplifying the auto aim to suit the higher speeds. Then we have Drive and Default from the AML Lynx 6x6 onwards, with Drive allowing for high speeds but low handling, while Default does the opposite.

"We're looking forward to releasing the French wheeled vehicles onto the live server with Update 1.4," says Maxim Chuvalov, Publishing Director for World of Tanks. "By adding them, we hope players will like the new range of vehicles and enjoy mastering the new gameplay role on the battlefield."

These vehicles are coming as part of Update 1.4 landing tomorrow (February 6), and you can get a good look at them in the screens down below.

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"On the outside it might just look like big, metallic monsters brutishly blasting away at each other, but there's actually a refreshing amount of tactical depth here."
