Whilst we were at Gamescom this year, we dropped by The Mix event to check out some interesting indie titles currently in the works, one that caught our eye was Wild Woods. We spoke with Johannes Kutsch, one of the programmers on the project to get an inside look into the game.

"Wild Woods is a couch co-op action game; it is composed of many genres but mainly survival and action" said Kutsch. "You start out in a village, which was plundered by bandits and you are sent out into a forest to slay the bandit king and remove the threats of the bandits."

"We have two main directions we could progress for the development, one direction is just to have one really long level, like a roguelike where we encounter some new bosses and areas and if you all die, you start over at the beginning. Another direction we could head, which we like more is you have to start from a village hub, and you have small ten-minute expeditions from the hub into the woods."

During the interview, we also asked Kutsch about how him and the team behind Wild Woods came up with the idea. He said; "We started out with an online multiplayer game but scrapped that idea because we are just four people and after that we came together and discussed what we wanted to do for the duration of the studio. We decided we all like local co-op games and that it would be great to develop one for the studio, we realised there aren't really any survival style local co-op games out there, so we set out to create one for ourselves."
