Stephen Totilo of the MTV Multiplayer blog has pulled numbers from the American Wii Channel (1.6 million users logging in their gaming habits) - and the game with most hours played (on average) is Super Smash Bros. Brawl. No big surprise there, but the 60 odd hours the average player has put in is obviously very impressive. Of the newer releases Animal Crossing: City Folk players on average spent ten hours on the game during December. Equally impressive. It also boggles the mind that the average Wii Play owner has spent almost ten hours on the mini-games provided with the extra Wii-mote. Then again, American Idol is the most popular TV show in America.

While the numbers are likely somewhat inflated as the typical player logged on to the Wii Channel is likely to be more hardcore and play their games more frequently it certainly gives us a good idea of how much time people put into their Wii games.

The December Top Ten: (average time played by Wii Channel users)

1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl - 64 hours, 51 minutes
2. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - 58 h, 41 m
3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - 46 h, 29 m
4. Wii Sports - 34 h, 47 m
5. Rock Band - 28 h, 55 m
6. Mario Kart Wii - 27 h, 17 m
7. Madden NFL 08 - 26 h, 49 m
8. Super Mario Galaxy - 26 h, 35 m
9. Animal Crossing: City Folk - 24 h, 59 m
10. Metroid Prime: Corruption - 21 h, 23 m

Remember these are average numbers. People play their games a lot. Well, not all games it seems. Sucks to be Link's Crossbow Training (4 hours, 38 minutes), even if that sounds like way more than what is healthy...

Check out the rest of the stats in the MTV Multiplayer blog - plenty for a "stats whore" to get excited about.
