Yesterday we reported that Blizzard had shown us the origin story of brand new hero Baptiste via a trailer that gives fans their expected amount of lore, and now a developer diary featuring none other than game director Jeff Kaplan has been unveiled to give us a deeper dive into the combat medic.

Baptiste will be the 30th hero in Overwatch, and is a man with a troubled past from Tortuga, Haiti. He brings a whole load of experimental healing devices into battle, including a three-round-burst Biotic Launcher that deals damage and also heals, providing projectiles that heal allies near where it lands. He also has a Regenerative Burst ability that heals himself and nearby teammates, as well as an Immortality Field that prevents allies dying, the generator of which can be destroyed.

As for the ultimate ability, this is called Amplification Matrix, which doubles the damage and healing of friendly projectiles passing through. He can also jump higher by crouching as well, which is part of his passive ability.

The full hero page should give you some extra details on Baptiste, and you'll be pleased to hear he's live right now in the PTR (Public Test Realm) on PC for fans to try out before Blizzard makes tweaks ahead of his inclusion in the main game.

Will you play as Baptiste?
