Speculation around a new Splinter Cell game has been raging on the internet for a long time, and recently Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot spoke in an IGN Unfiltered interview about the franchise, explaining why it's taken so long to get another game in the series.

"When you create a game, you have to make sure you will come [up] with something that will be different enough from what you did before," he said when asked about the franchise. "The last time we did a Splinter Cell, we had a lot of pressure from all the fans saying 'don't change it, don't do this, don't do that', so some of the teams were more anxious to work on the brand."

Does that mean we're not getting it in the future? Well, not exactly, as "there are now some people who are looking at and taking care of the brand," as Guillemot revealed. "So at some point, you will see something. I can't say more than that."

Just last month we reported on Splinter Cell seemingly being teased once more in Far Cry: New Dawn, and with Sam Fisher also appearing in other Ubisoft games like Ghost Recon: Wildlands, this has only added fuel to the fire of rumours about the series making a return.

Do you want Splinter Cell back in your life?
