We caught up with game designer Philip Johansson from Teotl Studios at Press Day to learn more about The Solus Project that launched last week on Steam Early Access and just hit Xbox Game Preview.

"It's kind of a Metroidvania experience," says Johansson when asked to explain the concept of the game. "It's a bit more narrative-driven than people tend to think when we say it has survival elements, crafting and exploration. So it's not that open, it's more about the claustrophbic caves where you need to find stuff to keep yourself alive, but it's not an open world game. It has a start and a finish."

If you're one of those people who absolutely those not want any sort of spoilers, the interview touches on some of the possible scenarios/themes you'll encounter in the game. Just a heads up in case you're allergic to potential spoilers (we don't actually know whether anything is being spoiled or not, just putting it out there).

The Solus Project

You can check out the game now via Steam Early Access or try it via Xbox Game Preview on Xbox One. The full release is planned for May.

REVIEW. Written by Matthew Dixon

"You find yourself lost in the experience, and as tension builds a primal urge to keep going overtakes any frustrations regarding the pacing."
