Last month we reported that Yager Development's The Cycle is another Epic Games Store exclusive, and at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) we talked with creative director Torkel Forner about what the game is, as he calls it a "competitive quest shooter".

"We're trying to make something new, a bit strange, it's a bit odd at times, but it's basically you compete against others to complete quests, and there's PvE, there's PvP, and you make these choices of how do you wanna play, how do you wanna complete these things. Do you wanna play with other people or against them? [...] So we're looking and we're working hard on trying to make sure that you can play the way you wanna play it, in order to have a lot of different viable strategies."

This is all based on 20-minute matches, rather than an MMO style, as Forner explains. "You still have to be careful, and hopefully there's enough tension in those moments where you meet other players [...] But yeah, it's a bit of an MMO feeling in it."

Does this mix of genres sound unique?
