Ubisoft opened its conference ahead of E3 with a first proper look at Watch Dogs Legion, the third game in the high-tech open-world action series, and its near-future London setting.

The action started with a character called Ian Robshaw, who swaggers through the streets of central London, monologuing with his perfect cockney accent, before engaging in a fight with local forces in order to save a drone specialist who he identifies with his scanner. After a high-speed chase during which we get to see some technical abilities such as cloaking, Ian is killed.

Then it becomes clear that we're dealing the "Legion" part of the title as we take control of an older lady called Helen Dashwood, who just happens to be an elderly assassin who has a mechanical spider-drone and tasers guards in the back.

Then we're another character called Naomi, who moves through the backstreets of Camden Market before taking out local criminals and then battling with enemy forces once again. She then rescued Jimmy, the drone-expert Ian initially helped in Picadilly Circus.

Linking things together was the mechanical voice of Bagley, an AI companion that communicates with all of these modern resistance fighters.

After the demo, creative director Clink Hocking dived into the location, London, and set the scene of a near-future in post-Brexit England, fighting back against an emerging authoritarian government that rules the population with aggressive drones and a heavy hand. Impressively, every character in this version of London is fully simulated and each and every one of them can be recruited to your cause.

Finally, we were treated to a release date. Watch Dogs Legion is heading to PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 6, 2020.
