Grand Theft Auto VI

GRTV News - Grand Theft Auto VI fans seem to be pre-ordering the Premium Edition of the game the most

Despite current financial challenges.

"Hello everyone and welcome back to another GRTV News. Today we're going to be talking a little bit about Grand Theft Auto because a whole bunch of bits and pieces of information about the game has come out as of late. Basically in regards to conversations and statements that CEO of Take-Two Publishing Strauss Zelnick has said. Pre-Orders The majority of fans who are pre-ordering a snack in their own copy of the game this early are grabbing the Premium Edition. They're not just grabbing the Base Edition, they're grabbing the Premium Edition. So, let's take a look, and then we'll talk a bit more about it after. So yeah, Grand Theft Auto VI fans pre-ordered the more expensive edition despite the economic challenges. Take-Two's boss, Charles Zelnick, that might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering now. So of course, nothing is hotter right now than Grand Theft Auto 6 and pre-orders are in full swing. At a time when tariffs, war and inflation have made things more expensive, and with the gaming industry hit hard by skyrocketing component prices, you'd naturally think people would be eager to save a few bucks wherever possible. However, that doesn't seem to be the case with Grand Theft Auto 6. When Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick recently appeared on CNBC to discuss GTA 6, among other topics, he revealed that pre-orders are going to be much better than expected. The game is available in two editions, a standard version for $79.99 and for $99.99. You can also choose the more feature-rich Ultimate Edition. Normally, people tend to choose the standard edition, but nothing about the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 is normal, so Zelnik reveals that demand is skewing more towards the premium edition. The fact that this game is being pre-ordered far more than expected naturally translates to millions of copies, and selling more of the higher priced edition in this situation naturally means record revenue for Rockstar. Zelnick acknowledges, however, that this consumer behaviour may not last and offers a possible explanation that might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering right now. Whatever the case may be, it's certainly incredibly impressive. Which version are you planning to get when Grand Theft Auto 6 is released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X on November 19th? I think it's a bit of a marvellous spin that Strauss Zelnick is putting out there right now in regards to that might be a reflection of the fact that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering right now. I think GTA is a complete anomaly in the way that it is set up in lots of different ways, but to say that the people who are pre-ordering are the most avid consumers I think is, again, I think it's a little bit false in a way. I think avid consumers, you'd have to say the ones that have been, the ones that are there always, not the people that drop in and out for these major releases."

"Naturally, because of GTA, because of the way it's set up, it exists in the same sort of space as, like, an EA Sports FC game, or a Call of Duty game, or even, like, a Battlefield game. And that brings a lot of, let's say, outside attention back to the industry in a way that, you know, maybe, like, a Phantom Blade Zero won't. I'm not saying that Phantom Blade Zero is going to be a bad game. It's shaping up to look fantastic, but it doesn't have the same level of attraction to it as a Grand Theft Auto. So to say that the most avid consumers are the ones who are pre-ordering, I don't think that's the case. I think it's..."

"Maybe like the most mainstream in a way? I guess you could phrase it. It's interesting because I think the avid consumers have got to a point with pre-ordering where they are very comfortable in saying, don't pre-order.
Especially for a digital game like this. Now if this was a collector's edition, a physical collector's edition of Grand Theft Auto and people are gobbling it up, I'd understand it. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the majority of them were scalped. This isn't that, this is people pre-ordering a digital edition, which means you can pre-order this exact copy two hours before it launches and you'd still get the same thing. What you're doing now is you're supporting a game that you haven't really seen if you pre-order it because they've only showed off two trailers Context Pre-order in the game are the avid consumers. I think that's a little bit unfair because I think the avid consumers are the ones that are probably holding their breath a little bit on it and waiting to see more before making a financial decision about it. As for whether it's a premium edition or a base edition, it's completely irrelevant because if I'm aware, with the premium edition, what you basically get is like a month subscription to Grand Theft Auto Plus or whatever it's called, the subscription thing that helps with online, and you get a few other sort of cosmetics. We're not talking about like a, you get a season pass with it or something. It's, frankly, pointless stuff. Um, so I, I think, yeah, I think Strauss is doing very well there to, to phrase it, to phrase it kindly. But I don't think the word saying that the, uh, the pre people who are pre-ordering are avid consumers is quite an accurate reflection of that. Um, but yeah, that's all the time that I have today's GRTV News, but I'll be back now tomorrow for the next one of the week. So thank you for joining me and I'll see you all on that one. Take care, everyone."
