Jabra Evolve3 85 (Quick Look) - Unstoppable Clarity

We've got our hands on the latest headphones from Jabra, which is regarded as the best headset for modern work.

Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
When you look at the price of something like this, the Jabra Evolve 385, you might think that it is like too expensive, just off the cuff too expensive, but you forget its actual use case because these aren't just the headset that you wear outside for a run or a walk or a trip on the train."

"These are for work and there's a whole range of different technologies and qualities that are specific for work, meaning that this high price is probably something that you would get an expenses account in a company to buy for your employees.
And if you do, you would be spoiling them quite a lot because we have been on about Jabra's Evolve series for a while and these, the Evolve 385, well that is something very interesting indeed to me."

"So what do you actually get?
So the first thing that Jabra would want you to know about the construction, as I'm sure you can see, is that it's 35% slimmer than it was before.
That's actually quite cool because the first ones, the ones that we reviewed last a couple of years ago, they were quite a bulky sort."

"There are other reasons for that which we'll get to and it's also 23% lighter than the old Evolve 285 and that is something that you can feel.
This is as light as the lightest of like Logitech's competing office headsets as well, which I think is really cool."

"It also means that they can be collapsed.
They're both very flexible and can be collapsed entirely, which I think is very nice indeed.
And it still comes with this, which is a USB-C type wireless charging pad.
There is a wireless charging coil in here."

"Now the old ones had pogo pins, meaning that you had to align it perfectly with the stand, but this, you just collapse it and you place it on and then you're basically good to go.
So really, really cool and just off the cuff, it's infinitely more usable than the others just because getting that extra charge, well, that is going to be much easier and much more important."

"When it is placed down here, it fast charges and Jabra say that you'll get 10 hours of use and 10 minutes of charging time on a wireless charging pad.
That is pretty cool indeed, I would say.
Now there are other things that I think is worth noticing."

"First and foremost, where is the microphone boomer?
Well, it's gone.
We've seen a number of different companies do this in like the past couple of years because beam forming microphones are so powerful."

"That basically means that they can now create sort of a pseudo microphone boomer arm that detects your voice.
It's like the essential sort of idea is that if you wear it and I'm talking, the microphones in the cups will detect my voice, remove any outside noise and just hone in and focus through software on my voice."

"Meaning that there is the effect of a microphone that like basically is placed right here.
You get the effect of it without it being cumbersome, getting in the way.
It is down and unmuted when you don't want it to be.
All of those kinds of things are eliminated with this."

"It's called Jabra ClearVoice and while I haven't reviewed it yet, the technology itself does seem very promising.
Now there is adaptive noise control here, which is great.
There's spatial sound."

"It supports LC3 audio codecs.
That is all very impressive and through this battery, you get 25 hours of use on a call.
That means a constant call, which is the thing that takes up the most battery, but you get 120 hours of light use with just audio flowing through your PC or Mac to the headset."

"So that would be music or podcasts or whatever the case might be before you need to drop it down on this little charging pad here.
But obviously there is one thing that I noticed immediately when I unboxed this.
Because it is slimmer, because it is lighter, they have removed some of the cushioning here both around the cups and at the bottom of this brace here, meaning that when I put it on, I immediately felt what I do feel sometimes from these smaller headsets, which is a notion of pressurization at the top of my skull pushing downward."

"It just means that there isn't enough cushioning to basically make it soft enough for the top of my head to not notice.
This is not something that becomes cumbersome after just a couple of hours, but if you're sitting with it eight hours a day, and let's assume that for a good majority of your work day you would be wearing these, well then they might get uncomfortable."

"That's what I'm going to test.
So for much more on these, stay tuned to Game Racktor.
Bye."
