Nothing (R) Phone (4a) Pro (Quick Look) - A Smarter Phone

The latest phone from Nothing is crammed to the brim with handy features, including the world's first 140x Ultra Zoom.

Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
Not too long ago, Nothing took to the stage for a brand new showcase where they actually both showcased and released the Nothing 4A and the Nothing Headphone A, but they also unveiled a Pro version of the 4A, the 4A Pro, and that is with us today."

"It looks rather different, to be extremely honest with you.
It has gone away from the ultra sort of transparent aesthetic and now has a solid, what appears to be a sort of aluminum unibody, fit with a transparent sort of mesa here, which you might say brings to mind the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, which I'm not sure how intentional that is."

"But whether you like it or dislike it, there are so many cool things that Nothing has been able to do with a baseline price, which I believe starts short of 500 euros.
That makes it at the same sort of pricing bracket as a Pixel A series or an iPhone E series, but this brings a lot more to the table beyond just these very striking looks."

"Now what this is, let's start here at the back, is obviously this camera mesa that you're drawn to.
It should be said right before that they have been able to secure IP65 dust and water resistance, which is very impressive, and the front here is Gorilla Glass 7i, also quite impressive."

"But there is an updated glyph matrix here, that's the big circular screen here.
It is 137 mini LEDs here, which dances across in various configurations to help you do certain things.
There's a lot of stuff that Nothing has secured themselves, like programmed from the bottom up, but you can also make your own, that should be said."

"And there are also versions that are specific to particular apps, so that might, for instance, if you have a Grubhub or DoorDash order, it can show you how close that is to being delivered or something like that.
Again, there's loads of different use cases here, but the point is that this can also be set for a number of sort of regular system-wide tasks, an alarm, the charging animation filling it up, particular animations fit for particular contacts if these people contact you, those kinds of things."

"Now, the camera itself is a triple camera setup, which is very cool.
So we get a big 50 megapixel sensor, which is lovely, and then you get a duo down here consisting of a pretty small 8 megapixel ultra-wide and a 50 megapixel telephoto that is able to go sort of beyond 3x optical telephoto, that's 3.5x I believe is optical."

"That is apparently achieved without the use of a periscope lens, where the light is sort of bouncing around itself.
So that is actually really impressive, and for a phone that costs like less than 500 euros as a base price, having a 3.5x telephoto is actually something that I don't really, at least I don't know of any other manufacturer that offers 3.5x optical zoom in a price like this."

"So inside here also is a 5,000, like a bit more than 5,000 milliamp hour battery that charges at 50 watts through USB type C down here at the bottom.
There does not seem to be wireless charging, which I think is a shame, and furthermore I think nothing is very well positioned to do the pixel snap thing and utilize Qi 2.2 charging, meaning that you get the same MagSafe-like magnetic charging array."

"That would mean that this can stick to all MagSafe available chargers and also Pixel Snap now through Google.
So that would have been great, but still this is a cheap phone, let's keep that in mind.
Inside here, to stay with the internals, you get the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 alongside either 8 or 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5X RAM and either 128 or 256 gigs of storage."

"You also get like, you know, Wi-Fi, news Wi-Fi, news Bluetooth, all of that stuff.
So all of that is pretty top-notch I would say, which leads us obviously to this screen.
Now we will be going further into the Nothing OS, which obviously is now, after a couple of years of steady progress from Nothing, a really wholesome, cohesive vision for what Android could look like, and I think it's great, it really is up there, one of my top favorite OSes, as is with Kim's, who has been reviewing these phones steadily as it's been coming out."

"Now this screen here is big, I'm sure you can see that, it's a 6.83-inch AMOLED, it runs at 1.5K resolution, so more than your standard sort of cheap 1080p screen.
It's 144 hertz, which I believe is only nearly matched by Motorola in some of their phones, and it will run you up to 5,000 nits peak brightness."

"Now again, that's probably not average brightness, but still, I would say with the Glyph Matrix, the triple camera system, the big battery, the large screen, there's a lot to like here.
And you have to remember that even though this is slightly more subtle because of this unibody design rather than going full transparent, which I believe is a shame, it still does stand out aesthetics-wise that I do think that it is a special phone, it looks special."

"And maybe that's what a lot of people are going for, although I will say, I do think this looks more like an iPhone than any other nothing phone, and I hope it's not a sign of things to come.
So for much more on the Nothing 4a Pro, stay tuned to Game Raptor, bye."
