It will be a console-PC hybrid.
"Hello everyone and welcome back to another GRTV News.
Today we're going to be talking about another pretty massive story that just out of nowhere broke last night."
"It's specifically in regards to Microsoft, in regards to Xbox.
As late yesterday in a tweet, or in a couple of tweets actually, Microsoft revealed to the world, or confirmed to the world I guess, the next generation of Xbox.
We don't have an official, like proper announcement, we just know that it's coming now and we know it's working title."
"It's going to be called Project Helix.
It's going to be an Xbox and PC hybrid unit and yeah.
The current Xbox boss, Asher Sharma, has shared a few bits of information about it.
Very brief bits of information, whilst teasing that next week we'll probably hear much more about Project Helix because it's probably going to have some sort of presence at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, which starts on March 9th."
"But anyway, let's dive in.
So yes, Project Helix announced Microsoft's vision for the next Xbox.
Microsoft has officially lifted the curtain on the next generation of Xbox, codenamed Project Helix."
"The upcoming platform appears to blur the line between console and PC.
So yeah, Microsoft has now officially unveiled the next generation of Xbox, known as Project Helix and there are strong indications that it will be a hybrid-like platform.
The announcement was made on social media by none other than Xbox's brand new boss Asher Sharma, who confirmed that this is the company's next major hardware venture designed to handle both traditional Xbox and PC games."
"In short, this is a significant departure from the traditional model and something that is entirely in line with Microsoft's attempts to blur the line between console and computer through Game Pass and Play Anywhere.
But Project Helix looks to take this a step further with a game library that's no longer strictly tied to a specific platform."
"The unveiling itself was fairly undramatic and other than confirming the working name and that the project is alive and thriving, no specifications, design or exact functionality were revealed.
However, more information is promised during GDC which kicks off on March 9th."
"She said, So again, it's all very trivial right now, what they've shared, but it is an official announcement of the console that it's coming.
This is basically the equivalent of when they announced Project Scarlet, which ultimately became Xbox Series X and S."
"So, we are probably looking at a device here that's, I'd say, the very earliest coming out in 2027, because usually this is the time that they're using these things.
They announce the games, or they announce the console as like a working project, and then eventually, when they're about a year out from launch, then they announce it properly and they tell you what they're actually going to call it in the eyes of consumers, in the eyes of public, and then give you sort of the timeline of what it will, you know, where it will, when it will come out, what it looks like, what sort of features it offers, that sort of stuff."
"So, again, it's an announcement, but it's also kind of not in a way.
So, yeah, lots to look forward to in the future.
I do think that maybe we'll start hearing a bit more about this next week, because I know that she said in the statement that she's looking forward to talking to partners and studios, particularly, about Project Helix at GDC, but I feel like now you said that you're going to be talking about the device at GDC, that we're going to have to get some information about the device at GDC, because otherwise I think the consumers are probably going to feel a little bit left out, a little bit frustrated that we're not being told more in a way, but we'll see."
"Maybe they will, maybe they won't.
The key thing to note is that Project Helix has been confirmed, and now the clock starts running, really.
You can hit that timer and you can start just waiting now for more information about it, because it's on its way."
"What is worth saying is that I don't think we're sticking to the traditional timelines anymore, in that, you know, now that Xbox has done this, PlayStation, it's time for them to step up.
I don't think we're going to be sticking to that sort of system anymore, because I think PlayStation, understanding the market sort of dominance that they have, they can probably hold fire a little bit with the PS6 until everything cools down from a hardware perspective, from a components perspective, and also until they're ready to launch the next PlayStation console."
"So I wouldn't necessarily think that this is going to mean that, you know, Mark Choney is going to be out tomorrow with a statement about PS6, or the working title for PS6, but we'll have to see.
But the key thing to note, again, Project Helix has been announced, it's on its way, stay tuned for more."
"And other than that, I will see you on the next GRTV News, which should be on Monday, so I hope you enjoy your Friday, enjoy your weekend, and yeah, see you all on the next one.
Bye."
