Nothing Headphone (a) (Quick Look) - Uncompromising Audio

These new headphones from Nothing are made for audiophiles searching for something stylish and fresh, all while delivering quality audio.

Audio transcription

"Hello everyone and welcome to another Gamereactor Quick Look.
If you are looking at these videos right as they go online, nothing has just unveiled a couple of new products."

"One is the new 4A, which is a cheaper version of their fourth attempt at like a flagship killer device.
And they also put out Headphone A, which is a cheaper version of their very popular over-ear headphones that they launched last year."

"I believe.
So when you get them, and that is a good first stop for us to make, it should be said that while these are cheap, they're not cheap.
I would argue."

"I think they're about what amounts to $210, $220 here in Denmark.
There's a bit of tax extra on that, but that still does not classify them as like a $100 over-ear headphone.
So they're semi-expensive, but not very expensive."

"And what you get is this bag, which feels like something that you would be able to get in a grocery store.
I don't think this is fancy enough for something that exceeds $200.
And there is no way of making it smaller than these because it is not collapsible."

"So that's actually one of my main points of criticisms with the Nothing Phone A. This is how they would want you to put your semi-expensive headphones into your bag.
I would want a hard case at that kind of price.
So once you extract the headphones from the bag, it gets a lot better, a lot quicker, and that is very good."

"So first and foremost, inside here, you find 40 millimeter custom drivers that supports a whole host of high-end codecs.
So that's LDAC, Hi-Res, AAC, SPC, the whole nine yards.
It has Bluetooth 5.4, meaning that enables dual connection and, well, a connection which stays strong even at many meters of distance, which is great."

"You get three separate microphones all around the devices, which support something called ENC, which I believe is technically like a sort of a voice cleanup algorithm.
Just means that in a whole host of different conditions, whether or not it's a busy metro station or windy conditions when you are on a bicycle somewhere, it will clean up your voice and means that it is crisp and clear when you're talking to someone."

"So what you're probably looking at straight away here is the design, which is semi-maintained from the regular, more expensive, nothing headphones.
They are squared off.
They have this semi-transparent design all around."

"I think it looks fantastic.
Sure, some people would want it to stick out less, and I agree, but when you have this job that we have, we tend to become a little bit apathetic over years and years of looking at these same oval shapes like the Sony WH-1000XM6, for instance, is a very good sort of definer for what other headphones look like."

"So for these to be futuristic, I think that they are nice just because they look a little bit different.
I'm not necessarily a big fan of the entire squared off transparent design profile that they run for most things, but just because it's slightly different, I am inclined to say that it is refreshing on that basis alone."

"And one thing that you're going to have to give them is that these feel very well-made.
Like I'm not saying that this is like Bang & Olufsen levels of well-made, but it's certainly like stitched together, made in such a way that it feels more expensive than they are.
If you look on the exterior here, you will see a couple of different things."

"For one, you have a headphone jack, which is good.
You have USB Type-C charging, which is also good, and you have a slider for turning it on, meaning that you can very quickly, by feel, turn it off or turn it on, which I think is more difficult to do than with a button that you have to hold."

"There are more good news, by the way.
If you look here, you'll see two buttons.
This is weirder than you think and better.
This is scrollable."

"It's kind of like the big digital crown you get on a pair of AirPods Max.
This is volume, moving your finger back and forth, and that's a physical oval button that you move backwards and forwards.
I love having responsive, old-school buttons on your headset because you can feel them out."

"Think about it.
How often is it that you look at the buttons on your headset when you use it?
You are wearing it, meaning that something with physical, tangible feedback is very, very important, and they give that to you here."

"Now, there is a bunch of other things that we can very list off.
It weighs, I think, about 300 grams.
That's fine.
It has IP52 certification, meaning that it can take a quick shower very quickly, running in the rain or something like that, 75 hours on a charge with ANC because, yes, these have ANC."

"All of these things, I think, are very good.
The one thing that I will say is that when you adjust the top brace, and I've said this before, there is a pressurization effect coming from the top of the brace because there isn't enough PU memory foam here to protect the top of my skull from that effect."

"That means that it's not something that creates pain or discomfort after 40 minutes or after two hours, but after four, maybe, if we're a long train ride or something like that, you start to feel that pressure at the top because there's not enough to support this pressure coming."

"The one thing that I like about the AirPods Max a lot is that when you have this mesh net at the top, then that weight is distributed over a larger area, but this is like a sharp feeling from here in the middle.
I would have loved a little bit extra comfort cushioning here, but apart from that, again, the main criticism, because my guess is that you either like or dislike this design."

"If you like it, well, nothing is pretty much the only headset manufacturer making headsets that look like this, but let's say that you do like it.
I still think that you need to be able to collapse this more.
You also need to be able to give consumers something better than this, but apart from that, pretty great."

"See you on the next one."
